environnement
The preservation and reduction of the event’s impact on the environment and the enhancement of the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud’s heritage are central to the festival’s production concerns.
Rock en Seine is committed to short-term and long-term actions and aims to persevere in its search for solutions to reduce the festival’s environmental footprint. in 2023, Rock en Seine undertook its first Carbon Footprint, supported by Bpifrance and ADEME. At the same time, the festival also joined ADEME’s ACT Pas à Pas (Accessing low Carbon Transition) programme, which supports its decarbonisation strategy.

SOFT MOBILITIES
The festival has set up a number of initiatives to facilitate responsible travel, in line with its environmental commitments.
- The festival plans end-of-concert times so that spectators can get to and from the festival using accessible public transport (metro, train, tramway, bus) around the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud.
- The use of more environmentally-friendly mobility solutions such as bicycles and scooters is encouraged by the festival. A secure parking area for bikes and scooters has been available to festival-goers since 2022.
- More than 35 bicycles and electric vehicles will be available to staff and organizing team for the duration of the festival.
WASTE
Rock en Seine works with its service providers to optimize waste sorting. To give life to its action plan for the management of waste generated by the festival as a whole, Rock en Seine applies the 3R strategy: reduce, reuse, recycle.
- Cups served in bars have been exclusively reusable and returnable.
- A lot of drinking water points at the festival has been installed to enable and encourage festival-goers to bring their empty water bottles.
- Dry or vacuum toilets and male and female urinals have been installed throughout the site
- 120 bi-flow sorting garbage cans, collecting recyclable waste as well as household refuse, are distributed throughout the festival grounds.
- The festival has abandoned its paper program in favor of a digital version on the app.
- The introduction of reusable and returnable crockery in restaurants areas
- Raising the awareness of our partners and suppliers in advance of the event, and involving them in the subject of sustainable development, considerably reduces waste at source.
- Part of the signage and decoration is designed to be recycled and reused over several editions.
- Some communication elements are based on a timeless graphic charter, making them easy to reuse.
- The ability to reuse and recycle components and products proposed by our suppliers is one of the essential criteria set out in our specifications.
- Butts are collected and recycled by Lemon Tri
- The management of bio-waste has been amplified and deployed more widely among restaurant owners and the general public, to maximize the sorting of this waste stream and recycle it into compost.
énergie
Controlling the festival’s energy consumption is one of the key points in our efforts to reduce our carbon impact.
- 80% of the festival is powered via the distribution network and supplied with green electricity which implies a reduction of generators.
- All generators run on biofuel
- Electricity consumption data is analyzed to optimize power and consumption of generators.
- LED masts with night-time programming and sensors are used at the festival, helping to reduce lighting-related energy consumption.
- Logistics optimization and reduction in the number of trucks to limit CO₂ emissions.
LOCAL AND ETHICAL SOURCING
By favoring local products, vegetarian options and eco-designed items, Rock en Seine is committed to a more sustainable approach.
- Optimized waste management in catering for festival-goers, teams and artists.
- Priority given to local suppliers and service providers to reduce travel and emissions.
- Sustainable catering: Use of locally sourced and responsible products, and obligation to offer vegetarian fare
- 50% vegetarian or vegan food offered at the festival.
- The products sold in the festival merchandising boutique are in line with our commitments
- T-shirts, sweatshirts and tote bags are made from organic cotton with a label, a guarantee of respect for the environment and working conditions throughout the supply chain, right up to the consumer.
préservation du domaine
Preserving the festival’s exceptional setting is a priority! Every action is designed to minimize the impact on the vegetation and enhance the heritage of the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud.
- The preparation of the festival takes into account the specific characteristics of the site where it is held, and everything is designed in such a way as not to alter or have a lasting impact on its vegetation.
- The Domaine National de Saint-Cloud alleys have been renovated. This large-scale project, driven by Rock en Seine, has resulted in the refurbishment of a significant part of the walkways, making the site more accessible to people with reduced mobility for the duration of the festival, as well as all year round for visitors to the Domaine.
- The Rock en Seine public is made aware of the specific nature of the site and the importance of preserving it, through spots on the giant screens between concerts, and through events organized by the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud.
- Every year, the festival sponsors the restoration of an area or monument in the grounds.
