TALK « AU SPORT, CITOYENS : QUAND LES ATHLÈTES S’ENGAGENT ! »

Thursday 22 Aug / 18:00 - 18:45

For 10 years, sportspeople have been speaking out against discrimination. They are speaking out against racism, homophobia, sexism and climate change, and even expressing their political views, as they did during the recent parliamentary elections, thereby freeing up a freer, more civic-minded and committed voice. How can sport encourage people to become involved?

To discuss this, we invite world surfing champion Pauline Ado, who is committed to the climate and the oceans; Coumba Diallo, a former rugby international who is campaigning to raise the profile of rugby in working-class neighbourhoods, and Thomas Brail, a squirrel and activist.

Thomas Brail

MILITANT ARBORIST CLIMBER

Arborist climber by profession and founder of the national tree surveillance group. The association was set up in response to the failure to comply with an article of the law preserving avenue trees. Today, we also denounce clear-cutting, photovoltaic installations and so many other things that impact on our trees. ‘Let’s keep an eye on our trees to better protect them’.

Pauline Ado

WORLD SURFING CHAMPION

Pauline discovered surfing at the age of 8, winning her first European Championships at just 14 (2005) before becoming the first French ISA Junior World Champion at 15 and 18 (2006 and 2009).

She became World Champion in 2017 and also competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
